Zoe Laakmann

Zoe Laakmann is a soprano based in Wilmington, North Carolina, and serves as Chorus Manager for Cape Fear Chorale. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from UNCW, graduating with honors in 2023, and a Master of Music in Performance from East Carolina University, where she was initiated into the Phi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society.

As Chorus Manager, Zoe oversees roster management, coordinates auditions, and facilitates communication between singers, artistic staff, and the Board of Directors. She plays a vital role in ensuring seamless logistics for rehearsals, performances, and special events, while fostering a supportive and professional environment for the Chorale’s members. Her organizational skills and eye for detail make her a key link between the artistry on stage and the structure behind the scenes.

In addition to her leadership role, Zoe maintains an active career as a performer. While at ECU, she appeared in the world premiere of Dr. Mark Taggart’s opera Gal Young Un, and she has performed with the Opera Wilmington chorus in productions such as The Magic Flute. Internationally, Zoe has taken on roles including the Marquise in Aboulker’s Leçons de Français in Angers, France, and Madame Silberklang in Mozart’s The Impresario in Salzburg, Austria, through the William Lewis School of Music.

Zoe also pursues research into women composers of Baroque-era France, beginning with her performance score of Lieux écartez from Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre’s Cephale et Procris.

When she’s not managing rehearsals or coordinating performances, Zoe enjoys contributing to Wilmington’s vibrant arts scene and collaborating with local creatives.
